Microbes are Fast

Doubling of microbial populations occurs at a relatively faster speed compared to higher organisms, making them conquer almost everything they touch. Funny that they "Multiply by dividing"!

They are Unique

Numerous genera of microbes show unique activity that may underline conservation or sometimes destruction of biodiversity — no two microbes are exactly alike.

Our Tiny Friends

We mostly don't get sick. Most often, microbes are keeping us well. Other than the minute fraction that causes harm, enjoy these little blessings!

A Little About Us

Welcome to the world of microbiology! Microbio is an exclusive blog exploring the latest microbiology trends and the industry. Throughout the journey you will witness the trending fields and areas of consideration in the scientific world. Microbio consists of three segments covering a diverse number of fields such as astromicrobiology, technological microbiology and microbial biotechnology. This was developed with the sole focus of providing scientific education and empowering science enthusiasts to step into the world of microbiology research.

Our characteristic blog article on astromicrobiology is an interesting read on the role of microbes in evolution to colonising Mars. The graphical poster is a descriptive journey through marine pollution and bioremediation with regard to Sri Lanka's worst marine disaster from X-Press Pearl. Finally, you will enjoy a digital experience on microbiology in various industries, energy applications and waste management. The Microbio team provides solid scientific literature along with trending industry insights in a way that beginners, intermediates and experts can learn with ease in just a few minutes.

I've always followed the saying "Enjoy the little Things". Animals, plants and all other higher macro-organisms evolved from these micro-genomes — that is a fact. When life ends, every king on this planet becomes feast to microbes again. So it is a matter of fact that they are farming us and we should pay tribute. I joined my colleagues on this wonderful quest in search of this marvellous miniature life which is seen only when you look close enough.

Microorganisms have always been an essential part of human life. I am indeed pleased to join this project to share as well as to broaden my knowledge on microorganisms. I really enjoyed reading and exploring this fascinating field. The team I am working with is amazing.

Finally, I would like to thank Pabasara, Senali, Chamishka, Sajani, Piyumi, Asini, Dhananjaya, Hansini and Rashen for being a part of this.

Enjoyed every bit of work! All three segments of the blog consist of the latest trends in the world of microbiology, seen through a creative eye.

Thankful for every person who contributed to make this a success.

Can we ever get rid of COVID-19?

We are in a situation where global infections and deaths continue to rise because of the pandemic. As a community we can avoid contact with the virus at all possible times and, of course, get vaccinated. Always remember — a pandemic won't last forever, but the virus that causes COVID-19 might.

The Gateway to the Article

There is no other astonishing creation on Earth than "Life" — Plants and animals, you and I, we all are LIFE!! But if you trace billions of years back, it all started with a tiny life called a "microbe". So to say, microbes were our past, our ancestors!

However, being the pioneers in planetary exploration missions, did you know microbes could even be our future? Together with my colleagues, we are ready to take you to the future!

Story behind the Video

It was a little hard for me as a newbie in video editing, but passion towards microbiology and dedication made it happen.

In the video, myself and Pabasara (the script writer) tried to emphasise the microbial aspects of COVID-19 and the importance of vaccination for disease prevention. We also tried to break some myths strongly rooted in society.

Story behind the Website

Being a project by undergraduates of the University of Colombo, Faculty of Science, this blog focuses on addressing rising global issues and providing possible answers per our friendly microbiome, with the hope of extending our vision to new dimensions of microbiology in the future.

I hope this will be an interesting read and will reach the global community who are enthusiastic to learn more about what is "unseen".
